PORTOBELLO racconta uno dei più clamorosi errori giudiziari italiani: la vicenda del presentatore televisivo Enzo Tortora, la parabola tragica della caduta di un uomo innocente.

1982. Enzo Tortora è all’apice del successo. Conduce Portobello e raggiunge 28 milioni di spettatori in prima serata, tutti in attesa del concorrente che riuscirà a far parlare il pappagallo, ospite d’onore della trasmissione. Pertini lo nomina Commendatore della Repubblica. Tortora è il re della Tv anni ’80 e il suo programma racconta e conforta il Paese. In quegli stessi anni il terremoto dell’Irpinia dà l’ultima scossa agli equilibri già fragili della Nuova Camorra Organizzata. Giovanni Pandico, uomo di fiducia del boss Raffaele Cutolo e spettatore assiduo di Portobello dalla sua cella, decide di pentirsi. Interrogato dai giudici fa un nome inatteso: Enzo Tortora. Quando il 17 giugno 1983 i carabinieri bussano alla sua stanza d’albergo Tortora pensa a un errore.

Ma è solo l’inizio di un’odissea che lo trascinerà dalla vetta al baratro.

PORTOBELLO tells the story of one of the most shocking miscarriages of justice in Italy: the case of TV host Enzo Tortora, the tragic arc of an innocent man’s downfall.
1982. Enzo Tortora is at the peak of his success. He hosts Portobello and reaches 28 million prime-time viewers, all waiting for the contestant who might finally make the talking parrot—the show’s honorary guest—say a word. President Pertini names him Commander of the Republic. Tortora is the king of 1980s Italian television, and his program reflects and comforts the nation.
In those same years, the Irpinia earthquake delivers the final shock to the already fragile balance within the Nuova Camorra Organizzata. Giovanni Pandico, a trusted man of boss Raffaele Cutolo and an avid viewer of Portobello from his prison cell, decides to turn state’s witness. During questioning, he utters an unexpected name: Enzo Tortora.
When, on June 17th 1983, the Carabinieri knock on his hotel-room door, Tortora believes it must be a mistake.
But it is only the beginning of an ordeal that will drag him from the summit to the abyss.
